Zusammenfassung

In früherer Zeit gebaren Frauen üblicherweise in vertikaler Haltung. Zunehmende ärztliche Intervention brachte in der Folge jedoch Veränderungen in der Gebärposition mit sich.
Die Wassergeburt bietet u. a. den Vorteil einer verkürzten ersten Geburtsperiode und konsekutiv ein geringeres Schmerzempfinden und einen reduzierten Schmerzmittelbedarf. Dennoch ist die Bedeutung im europäischen Raum in den letzten Jahren deutlich zurückgegangen.
