2. Diätverhalten und Körperbild im gesellschaftlichen Wandel

Zusammenfassung

Unzufriedenheit mit der körperlichen Erscheinung, allem voran, sich zu dick zu fühlen, ist ein weitverbreitetes Phänomen, das häufig mit einem gestörten Essverhalten einhergeht. Der Wunsch, die Idealnorm – häufig ein unrealistisches Gewicht, das v. a. durch soziokulturelle Einflüsse definiert ist – zu erreichen, führt zu Diätversuchen. Die Kombination von einem gestörten Körperbild und Diätverhalten hat nicht selten eine manifeste Essstörung mit anorektischen und/oder bulimischen Symptomen zur Folge, insbesondere bei Jugendlichen und jungen erwachsenen Frauen, jedoch auch – wenn auch deutlich weniger häufig – beim männlichen Geschlecht. Erklärungsmodelle der ungleichen Geschlechtsverteilung reichen von soziokulturellen bis zu biologischen Faktoren, ohne dass es bislang eine hinreichende Erklärung für diese auch kulturübergreifenden Geschlechtsunterschiede gibt.
