Zusammenfassung

Bakterien gibt es nicht nur in verdorbenen Lebensmitteln, sie sind universal verbreitet. Diese kleinen, einzelligen Strukturen können sehr viele, verschiedene Infektionskrankheiten auslösen. Manche von diesen verlaufen so schwer, dass sie im ungünstigen Fall sogar zum Tode führen. Die Pest (Bakterium Yersinia pestis), Tuberkulose (u. a. Mykobakterium tuberculosis), Typhus (Bakterium Salmonella typhi) oder blutige Durchfallerkrankungen (EHEC = enterohämorrhagische Escherichia coli) sind hierfür klassische Beispiele.
