With democracy making inroads in South Africa, oppressed groups have an opportunity to be part of a new research agenda.

She has a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Zurich, Switzerland. She has been engaged in social research in Southern Africa for 20 years and joined the University of Natal’s Centre for Social and Development Studies in 1976. Her research interests cover a wide range of quality-of-life topics, including ones related to the well-being of the elderly, youth and the unemployed.
