Zusammenfassung

Die Grundlagen der heutigen Resektionsverfahren der Schilddrüse (Enukleation, Resektion, Thyreoidektomie) wurden im Wesentlichen bereits Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts durch Chirurgen wie Theodor Billroth, Theodor Kocher, Johannes von Mikulicz- Radecki und Riedel gelegt. Nach Kocher’s Erkennung der »Cachexia strumipriva« als Postthyreoidektomiefolge standen vor allem die Beherrschung von Blutungen und die Vermeidung von Rekurrensparese und Hypokalzämie im Mittelpunkt der chirurgischen Forschung und klinischen Praxis. Nachdem die Probleme der Schilddrüsensubstitution und intraoperativen Blutungen als weitgehend gelöst betrachtet werden können, bleiben auch heute noch Rekurrensparese und Hypokalzämie das beherrschende Thema der Komplikationsvermeidung bei Schilddrüsenoperationen.
