Zusammenfassung
Das hohe Potential von Informationstechnologien (IT) zur Steigerung der Effizienz und Qualität der Leistungserstellung ist bereits seit Jahren in vielen Wirtschaftsbereichen bekannt und fördert dort die Akzeptanz und Adoption dieser Systeme (Banker et al.1990; Kohli/Devaraj 2003). Auch im Gesundheitssektor gewinnt der Einsatz von sogenannten Health Information Technologies (HIT) zunehmend an Bedeutung. Health Information Technologies können im Allgemeinen beschrieben werden als „the application of information processing involving both computer hardware and software that deals with the storage, retrieval, sharing, and use of health care information, data, and knowledge for communication and decision making“ (Brailer/Thompson 2004). Sie umfassen ein vielfältiges Bündel von Assistenzsystemen, welche speziell für die Erfassung, die Verwaltung und die sichere Übertragung von behandlungsrelevanten Informationen zwischen den Patienten, den medizinischen Leistungserbringern, den Kostenträgern und sonstigen Gesundheitsdienstleistern entwickelt worden sind.
