Zusammenfassung
Schwindel und Gleichgewichtsstörungen können prinzipiell in jedem Lebensalter auftreten. Bei peripher-vestibulären Störungen (Vestibularisausfall, Morbus Menière) gibt es Häufungen in bestimmten Lebensdekaden. Der gutartige Lagerungsschwindel tritt vorzugsweise im höheren Lebensalter auf. Neben diesen meist eindeutig zuzuordnenden Erkrankungen existiert umgangssprachlich und häufig auch der in der fachlichen Kommunikation verwendete Begriff des so genannten „Altersschwindels“, einer unscharfen Beschreibung und Erklärung von Schwindelzuständen im Alter [39, 40]. „Schwindel“ ist eines der häufigsten Symptome bei Senioren. Die ärztlichen Konsultationen auf Grund dieses Symptoms werden wegen der demografischen Veränderungen in den kommenden Jahren weiter zunehmen. Hier sind alle Fachgebiete betroffen, die in die interdisziplinäre Abklärung von Schwindelbeschwerden eingebunden sind.
