Dr. Pakel hörte aufmerksam zu. Er war gerade zur Spätschicht gekommen und erhielt von seiner Kollegin Frau Dr. Zita eine Übergabe. „Die meisten Patienten kennst du ja bereits und da ich noch eine Verabredung habe, möchte ich mich nicht zu lange aufhalten“. Sie saßen gemeinsam an der Zentrale von dem Rechner mit den elektronischen Patientenakten. Während Frau Dr. Zita sprach, klickte sie rasch die unterschiedlichen Graphiken der einzelnen Patienten durch. „Bett 1: Ösophagus-OP bei Tumor vor 2 Tagen, unauffälliger Verlauf, gute Analgesie über den PDK. Bett 2: Der alte Herr mit der überstandenen Pneumonie, unser Glückskind, Morgen soll er die Reha verlegt werden. Bett 3: Die junge Frau mit der SAB, vor 2 Tagen geklippt, weiterhin erhöhte Hirndrücke mit eingeschränkter Hirncompliance. Sie soll auf jeden Fall weiter schlafen …“ – In diesem Kapitel geht es um Hirncompliance, Befundung eines Thoraxröntgenbilds, ZVD-Kurve, Trachealkanüle, Sauerstoffbindungskurve, Tracheostoma sowie Aktionismus.
