Zusammenfassung
Vier Monate verblieben, dann hatte Herr Dr. Casey die zeitliche Voraussetzung zur Erlangung der Subspezialisierung erfüllt. Er hatte mit noch niemand darüber gesprochen, aber sein Plan war, nach der Prüfung eine Auszeit zu nehmen. Intensivmedizin war extrem spannend und fachlich herausfordernd, aber manchmal eben auch zu spannend und zu herausfordernd. Er hatte trotz seiner Erfahrung noch keine gute Strategie gefunden, die Patienten nicht mit nach Hause zu nehmen, und seine Seele schrie nach einer Pause. Es war daher wie ein Flashback, als ein ungeplanter Zugang aus der internistischen Notaufnahme angekündigt wurde: Frau Sanchez, eine junge, gynäkologische Patientin, die er erst vor 4 Tagen verlegt hatte. Bei Bumerang-Patienten hatte er immer ein schlechtes Gefühl. „Aber sie war doch über den Berg gewesen“, dachte er, als er zur Übergabe ging. In diesem Kapitel geht es um postpartale Blutungen, Sauerstoffkaskade, Hautemphysem, Trachealruptur, Oxytocin, epileptische Anfälle sowie Unaufmerksamkeitsblindheit.
