Zusammenfassung

Tracheotomien sind häufige Eingriffe bei beatmeten Intensivpatienten. Sie können mit schweren Komplikationen verbunden sein, bis hin zum tödlichen Ausgang. Die Komplikationen Blutung, Pneumothorax, Tracheahinterwandverletzungen, intraoperativer Verlust des Atemwegs, Verlust des Atemwegs bei Kanülenwechsel, Trachealringfrakturen, Trachealstenosen und Stomainfektionen werden für die verschiedenen Verfahren und Methoden in zahlreichen Abbildungen, Tabellen und Textbeschreibungen übersichtlich dargestellt sowie Strategien zu deren Vermeidung eingehend abgehandelt. Die Komplikationen werden erstmals im Schrifttum durch konkrete Angaben vergleichend definiert. Die Durchführung der PDT mit starrer endoskopischer Kontrolle wird unter interdisziplinären Aspekten ausführlich beschrieben. Tracheotomie-assoziierten Todesfällen ist ein eigenes Kapitel gewidmet. Das Kapitel ist für den praktisch tätigen Arzt in seinem zentralen Anliegen, Komplikationen zu vermeiden, eine Pflichtlektüre und für Gutachter eine hilfreiche Orientierung.
