Zusammenfassung

Die früher übliche strenge Trennung in pränatale und postnatale Infektionen ist weitgehend aufgegeben. Infektionen sind beim Neugeborenen – und noch mehr beim Frühgeborenen – häufig, da sowohl die humorale als auch die zelluläre Immunität nicht ausgereift ist. Die häufigsten und schwerwiegendsten Infektionen werden knapp geschildert. Die Entstehung nosokomialer Infektionen und das zu ihrer Verringerung entwickelte Krankenhaus-Infektions-Surveillance-System werden dargestellt.
