Zusammenfassung
80–90 % der Patienten in Hospizen und Palliativstationen haben Krebs. Viele Kranke, die chronisch leiden und absehbar sterben werden, leiden unter vergleichbaren Symptomen wie Krebskranke. In den letzten Jahren hat sich Palliative Care auch auf Herzversagen, chronisch obstruktive Lungenerkrankung, terminales Nieren- und Leberversagen ausgeweitet. Eine bessere Symptomkontrolle und eine multidisziplinäre psychosoziale Betreuung werden zunehmend umgesetzt. Die positiven Erfahrungen mit Palliativmedizin werden auf viele Fachrichtungen übertragen, da die Autonomie der Patienten mehr wahrgenommen wird und auch die ökonomische Relevanz zunehmend in das Bewusstsein rückt.
