Basis der meisten aktuellen Forschungsentwicklungen sind die Fähigkeit, unglaubliche Datenmassen zu verarbeiten, lernfähige Algorithmen und die Möglichkeiten der Gensequenzierung. Die wichtigsten Beispiele werden im Folgenden angeführt.

vielen Dank für Ihr Interesse an diesem Buch. Leider haben sich trotz sorgfältiger Prüfung Fehler eingeschlichen, die erst nach Drucklegung aufgefallen sind. Aufgrund eines technischen Problems während der Herstellung fehlen in der zuerst veröffentlichten Version des Dokuments die Quellenangaben bei Abbildungen und Tabellen. Diese Quellenangaben wurden in den Kapiteln 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10 und 12 nun wieder hinzugefügt.
