Zusammenfassung

Die Früherkennung von Demenzerkrankungen bei Menschen mit einer geistigen Behinderung ist von großer Bedeutung für eine angemessene Begleitung dieser Menschen. Im Unterschied zur Allgemeinbevölkerung sind für diese Personengruppe sowohl andere Instrumente als auch andere Erhebungsmethoden erforderlich. Seit ca. 20 Jahren beschäftigen sich Forscher weltweit mit der Entwicklung geeignetes Screeninginstrumente. Die Instrumente lassen sich in zwei Gruppen einteilen: Fremdbefragungen und direkte Einschätzungen kognitiver Fähigkeiten. In dem Beitrag wird dargestellt, wie den Herausforderungen der Demenzfrüherkennung begegnet wird und welche Strategien für die Früherkennung empfohlen werden. Neu entwickelte ausgewählte Instrumente, die sich für die Früherkennung eignen, werden vorgestellt.
