Fertilität und Familienformen in Europa: Eine historische Perspektive

Zusammenfassung

Dieser Beitrag fasst Entwicklungen in der neueren historisch-ökonomischen und historisch-anthropologischen Familiendemographie zusammen. Dabei wird zunächst das weitgehend berührungsfreie Verhältnis von Geschichte und Soziologie der Familie analysiert. Sodann werden die wichtigsten Forschungsparadigmen zur Familie auf historischer Seite beschrieben. Abschließend werden historische Ergebnisse zu Paarbildung, Fertilität und Haushalt vorgestellt. Die Forschungsgeschichte legt nahe, dass das berührungsfreie Verhältnis der Disziplinen so nicht auf Dauer bestehen muss. Während die Soziologie nicht nur modernisierungstheoretische Begrifflichkeiten nutzt, sondern oft auch entsprechende historische Verläufe (etwa der Kontraktion von Familien) annimmt, hat sich in der historisch-ethnologisch-ökonomischen Familienforschung ein antimodernisierungstheoretischer Konsens herausgebildet. Dieser wird allerdings durch neueste empirische Forschungsergebnisse in Frage gestellt. Auch für die Familiensoziologie besteht demnach das Desiderat einer Revision bestehender Annahmen über historische Verläufe.
