Höreinbußen im Alter: Belastung und Bewältigungsmöglichkeiten

Zusammenfassung

Höreinbußen sind eine typische Belastung, die mit fortschreitendem Alter auftritt. Mindestens 30% aller über 65jährigen sind so stark von Höreinbußen betroffen, daß sie als schwerhörig zu bezeichnen sind und mit Hörgeräten versorgt werden müßten (4, 5, 17). Aus medizinischer Sicht läßt sich Schwerhörigkeit im Alter als eine Einschränkung bezeichnen, für die keine eindeutigen Risikofaktoren bekannt sind (siehe auch Kapitel 2; 16). Dies bedeutet, daß es bislang nicht möglich ist, das Auftreten von Altersschwerhörigkeit durch präventive Maßnahmen zu verhindern, obwohl es sicher sinnvoll ist, sich durch geeignete Vorkehrungen gegen übermäßige Beschallung zu schützen, um das Eintreten von Lärmschwerhörigkeit zu vermeiden. Auch eine kurative Behandlung der Alters- Schwerhörigkeit ist (noch) nicht möglich, so daß rehabilitative Maßnahmen angewendet werden müssen. Die Methode der Wahl ist die Anpassung von Hörgeräten. Allerdings sind Hörgeräte problematische Prothesen, da sie den altersbedingten Hörverlust nur zum Teil auszugleichen in der Lage sind; ein „normales“ Hören ist mit Hörgeräten nicht möglich.
