Zusammenfassung

Die Häufigkeit arterieller Verletzungen ist im Verhältnis zur Gesamtzahl aller Verletzten gering: ca. 0,2–0,4% (Awender U. Henzler 1977; Steiner U. Flora 1977; Vollmar 1975). Dennoch sollte nicht nur der gefäßchirurgisch Tätige derartige Verletzungen legeartis versorgen können (Jonas et al. 1977): einerseits nimmt die Zahl der Verletzten zu (Verkehrs- und Arbeitsunfälle, Verletzungen im Rahmen der invasiven Diagnostik), andererseits kann das Unterschätzen oder Verkennen bzw. eine verzögerte Versorgung (s. auch Burnett et al. 1976; Denck et al. 1977; ROb U. Baker 1978; Whitehouse et al. 1976) einer Gefäßverletzung den Verlust einer Gliedmaße oder — bei Verletzung großer Arterien — den Verlust des Lebens bedeuten.
