Zusammenfassung

Einführung In den letzten Jahren hat sich ein neues pathophysiologisches Verständnis der Erkrankung, die wir allgemein noch immer als »benigne Prostatahyperplasie« bezeichnen, durchgesetzt. Wie im Kap. 3.3 »Pathophysiologie der Miktionsstörungen« dargestellt wurde, basiert dieses Verständnis auf den Haid-Ringen [20], die auch die Grundlage für eine neue Terminologie der benignen Prostatahyperplasie bildete [1]. Die international vorgeschlagene Terminologie wurde in Deutschland durch den Arbeitskreis »Benigne Prostatahyperplasie« der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Urologie modifiziert (Abb. 9.1; Tabelle 9.1). Aus der grafischen Darstellung geht hervor, daß zwischen Obstruktion (BOO), Symptomatik (LUTS) und Vergrößerung der Prostata (BPE) nur in einem kleinen Prozentsatz der Patienten ein Zusammenhang besteht.
