Zusammenfassung

Menschheitsgeschichtlich betrachtet, ist das Alter noch jung; biologisch wie kulturell. In früheren Zeiten erreichten nur wenige Menschen aufgrund der Sterblichkeitsraten das höhere Lebensalter. ältere Menschen stehen bis heute eher am Rande der Humanwissenschaften und der Heilkundedisziplinen. Dennoch haben sich jenseits dieses gesundheitswissenschaftlichen Mainstreams in den letzten Jahrzehnten mehrere Wissenschafts- und Heilkundedisziplinen mit z. T. erstaunlichen Kenntnisfortschritten etablieren können.
