Zusammenfassung
Die Hauptursachen von Krankenhausinfektionen (nosokomiale Infektionen; Kap. ▸ 72) auf Intensivstationen sind nicht Hygienefehler, sondern die erhöhte Disposition: Die Patienten sind empfänglich durch verschiedene Grundkrankheiten, operative Eingriffe und invasive diagnostische und therapeutische Maßnahmen (z. B. Venenkatheter, Blasenkatheter, Intubation usw.). Durch diese in der Intensivmedizin unerlässlichen Interventionen werden die natürlichen Abwehrbarrieren durchbrochen und meist körpereigenen (endogenen) Mikroorganismen der direkte Zutritt zum Körper ermöglicht. Therapeutische Maßnahmen können zusätzlich die körpereigene Abwehr vermindern (Zytostatika-, Kortikosteroidtherapie, komplexe intensivmedizinische Behandlung) (Daschner et al. 2006; Gastmeier et al. 2010; Grundmann et al. 2005; Mayhall 2004).
