Zusammenfassung

Angststörungen treten im höheren Alter ungefähr doppelt so häufig auf wie Depressionen, werden aber oft übersehen. Dabei weisen Studienergebnisse nach, dass ältere Patienten mit Angststörungen von kognitiver Verhaltenstherapie (KVT) profitieren. Die Therapie von älteren Angstpatienten sollte eine ausführliche Psychoedukation, sowie Achtsamkeits-, Konfrontations- und Entspannungsverfahren einbeziehen. Das vorliegende Buchkapitel erläutert, wie die Interventionen konkret durchgeführt und an die besonderen Charakteristika älterer Angstpatienten angepasst werden können. So sollte beispielsweise bei älteren Patienten mit kardiovaskulären Erkrankungen wegen der Gefahr starker vegetativer Reaktionen die Konfrontation graduiert durchgeführt werden. Ein spezielles Entspannungsverfahren für Ältere ist das sensorische Entspannungstraining, das neben Muskelentspannung auch sensorische Fähigkeiten trainiert.
