Zusammenfassung

Die Last körperlicher Beschwerden gilt als der Hauptgrund dafür, dass viele Menschen das höhere Lebensalter für beschwerlich, mühsam und einschränkend halten. Neben degenerativen Prozessen und dem zunehmenden Risiko organischer Krankheiten spielen die somatoformen Störungen auch bei älteren Personen eine wichtige Rolle. Von somatoformen Störungen wird gesprochen, wenn sich körperliche Beschwerden entwickeln, die nicht oder nicht ausreichend durch bekannte medizinische Erkrankungen erklärt werden können. Bei vielen Betroffenen stehen persistierende Schmerzen im Vordergrund. In diesem Kapitel wird ein Überblick über die aktuellen wissenschaftlichen und klinischen Erkenntnisse zu den Auftretensformen und Behandlungsmöglichkeiten somatoformer Beschwerden im Alter gegeben. Bei der Literaturrecherche zeigte es sich, dass somatoforme Störungen bei der Zielgruppe älterer Personen noch vergleichsweise wenig erforscht sind. Dennoch lassen sich einige altersspezifische Besonderheiten und Implikationen für Störungsmodelle und Therapieansätze herausarbeiten.
