Zusammenfassung

Warum und worum genau trauern wir? Was löst den Schmerz und andere Gefühle aus? Warum scheint für Trauernde die ganze Welt zusammenzubrechen? Warum fühlt man sich in der Trauer oft wertlos und ohnmächtig? Woher kommt die Angst, den Verstand zu verlieren? Warum tun Trauernde tatsächlich „verrückte“ Dinge, und welchen Sinn haben diese? Warum trauert man um bestimmte Menschen besonders – auch, wenn sie es nicht „verdient“ haben? Dieses Kapitel gibt einen Überblick darüber, wie die theoretische Trauerforschung diese Fragen beantwortet. Worin genau der Verlust besteht, wenn ein für das eigene Leben bedeutsamer Mensch stirbt, erklären verschiedene Trauertheorien auf dem Hintergrund verschiedener psychologischer „Schulen“ sehr unterschiedlich. Das Spektrum zu kennen, ist nützlich, um Trauernden verstehen zu helfen, worin genau ihr Verlust in ihrem individuellen Trauerfall besteht.
