Das Coma diabeticum, die hyperglykämische Entgleisung, war bis zur Einführung der Insulin therapie im Jahre 1922/23 die unabwendbare Todesursache für nahezu alle Patienten mit Typ-1- und auch viele mit Typ-2-Diabetes.
