Zusammenfassung
Harnwegsinfektionen gehören mit zu den häufigsten nosokomialen Infektionen, 80 % dieser Infektionen sind mit Harnblasenkathetern assoziiert. Schon eine indikationsgerechte Anlage und zeitgerechte Entfernung von Harnblasenkathetern ist infektionspräventiv. Weiterhin lässt sich die Rate an Katheter-assoziierten Harnwegsinfektionen durch die Teilnahme an einer Surveillance, eine hohe Compliance mit Standardhygienemaßnahmen, der konsequenten Anwendung von Alternativen zum transurethralen Katheter sowie durch die Einführung von Maßnahmenbündeln weiter senken. Die Verabreichung einer antibiotischen Prophylaxe zur Anlage, feste Wechselintervalle oder die Verwendung von antimikrobiell beschichteten Kathetern sind dagegen nicht zu empfehlen.
