Zusammenfassung

Symptomkontrolle bedeutet immer eine Herangehensweise, bei der nicht das Symptom, sondern der betroffene Mensch behandelt wird. In der Palliativmedizin werden alle Symptome auf ihrer physischen, psychischen, sozialen und spirituellen Ebene erfasst und verstanden. Körperliche Schmerzen lösen Emotionen und manchmal Konflikte aus, die den Schmerz verstärken können. Angst, Sinnverlust oder Scham können die Ursache für die Entstehung eines körperlichen Symptoms sein. Das ausführliche Verständnis der Ausprägung eines Symptoms auf den vier verschiedenen Ebenen der palliativmedizinischen Betrachtung ist für eine gute und lindernde interprofessionelle Symptomkontrolle unverzichtbar. Als wissenschaftliche Grundlage für das Vorgehen zur Symptomkontrolle wird das Akronym EEMMA verwendet .
