Zusammenfassung

Die grundlegenden Prinzipien für einen erfolgreichen Muskel-Sehnen-Transfer wurden vor mehr als 100 Jahren entwickelt. Poliomyelitis war im späten 18. Jahrhundert in Europa endemisch, und entsprechend der vielfältigen Lähmungsmuster wurden bereits damals Sehnentransfers zur Funktionsverbesserung durchgeführt. Bereits 1881 verlagerte Carl Nicoladoni in Wien peroneale Muskeln in die Achillessehne, um die durch Poliomyelitis gelähmten Mm. gastrocnemii zu ersetzen. Codavilla publizierte eine der frühesten Serien über 30 Sehnentransfers bereits 1899 (Codavilla 1976). Er betonte die Wichtigkeit eines muskulären Äquilibriums. Im frühen 1900 verbrachte der Amerikaner Leo Mayer einige Zeit bei Lange und Biesalski in Deutschland, um artifizielle und biologische Methoden zur Verringerung von Sehnenadhäsionen zu entwickeln (Smith 1987). In den folgenden Jahrzehnten wurden noch heute geltende fundamentale Regeln zum Sehnentransfer durch Leo Mayer (1916), Jones (1921), Steindler (1919) und Bunnell (1918) entwickelt, ausgebaut und weiter verbessert (Boyes 1962, Brand 1974, 1975, Bunnell 1924, Curtis 1974, Littler 1977, Smith 1987, White 1960).
