Zusammenfassung
Der Begriff Surveillance im infektionsepidemiologischen Sinn wurde in den USA von den Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) definiert als „die fortlaufende, systematische Erfassung, Analyse und Interpretation nosokomialer Infektionsraten, die für das Planen, die Einführung und Evaluation von medizinischen Maßnahmen notwendig sind, einschließlich der Übermittlung dieser Informationen an diejenigen, die diese Information benötigen.“ Dieses Kapitel zeigt die praktische Bedeutung der Surveillance im Alltag der Infektionsprävention und ihre Anwendung.
