Zusammenfassung

Eine arterielle Hypertonie besteht trotz sehr guter Behandlungsmöglichkeiten in Deutschland bei einem großen Teil der Bevölkerung. Sie begünstigt das Auftreten von Apoplexie, Demenz, Herzinfarkt, Herzinsuffizienz, Nierenversagen und peripherer arterieller Verschlusskrankheit. Bei mittelschwerer und schwerer Hypertonie ist der günstige Effekt einer konsequenten Arzneitherapie auf die Lebenserwartung des Hochdruckpatienten durch zahlreiche Studien belegt.
