Die medizinischen Einrichtungen verfügen häufig über organisatorische Einheiten, die sowohl stationäre als auch ambulante Leistungen anbieten (vgl. Seegenschmiedt 2001). Ein Beispiel dafür ist Strahlentherapie, die gewöhnlich über eine umsatzstarke Ambulanz verfügt, aber auch stationäre Leistungen erbringt.
