Nahrungskohlenhydrate enthalten neben Fructose und Galactose hauptsächlich die aus dem Stärkeabbau stammende Glucose. Intrazellulär wird Glucose in der Glycolyse unter ATP-Gewinn oxidativ zu Pyruvat umgesetzt.
