Zusammenfassung

Lippen-Kiefer-Gaumen-Spalten sind die häufigsten und wichtigsten kraniofazialen Fehlbildungen, sie treten mit einer großen Variationsbreite isoliert oder mit anderen Entwicklungsanomalien kombiniert auf. Die Häufigkeit des Gesamtkomplexes Lippen-Kiefer-Gaumen-Spalten wurde in Mitteleuropa vor 50 Jahren noch mit einer Spalte pro tausend Geburten angegeben, heute ist dagegen mit einer Inzidenz von 1:500 zu rechnen. Mit ca. 50% aller Spaltbildungen sind ein- und beidseitig durchgehende Lippen- Kiefer-Gaumen-Spalten die häufigste Erscheinungsform, isolierte Gaumen- und Velumspalten treten mit einer Häufigkeit von ca. 30% auf, und Lippen- bzw. Lippen-Kiefer-Spalten werden mit ca. 20% beobachtet.
