Zusammenfassung

Internationale Migration und Reisetätigkeit nahmen in den letzten Jahrzehnten kontinuierlich zu und erreichten im Jahr 2011 einen neuen Höchststand mit mehr als 980 Mio. internationalen Reisen. Allein von Deutschland aus erfolgten über 43 Mio. touristische Auslandsreisen, davon 31 Mio. in Länder mit reisemedizinischer Relevanz, zu denen auch die Mittelmeerländer gehören. Fast 4 Mio. Reisende besuchten tropische und subtropische Entwicklungsländer, in denen ein deutlich erhöhtes Risiko für Erkrankungen v. a. infektiöser Genese besteht. Zudem leben in Deutschland mehr als 15 Mio. Mitbürger mit Migrationshintergrund, von denen ein zunehmender Teil aus tropischen Ländern stammt und die oft regelmäßig in ihre Heimatländer zu Besuchen von Freunden und Verwandten reisen.
