Es handelt sich um Verletzungen der distalen Tibia mit Beteiligung der Gelenkfläche, meist aufgrund des typischen Mechanismus als Pilon-tibial-Frakturen bezeichnet (Destot 1911, Lyon; „le pilon“: franz. Stampfer, Stößel).
