Zusammenfassung

Infektionen an der Hand können schwerwiegende funktionelle Einschränkungen hinterlassen. Sie unterliegen in ihrer Entstehung und Ausbreitung einer besonderen Dynamik, welche durch die spezielle Anatomie der Hand und die oft erhöhte Virulenz der Erreger bestimmt wird. Gerade an der Hand spielt die chirurgische Behandlung eine herausragende Rolle – der Einsatz von Antibiotika allein verhindert Infekte nicht. Die Kenntnis der besonderen Gegebenheiten an der Hand ermöglicht, Risiko und potenzielle Entwicklung einer Infektion besser abzuschätzen und eine frühzeitige und gezielte chirurgische Therapie einzuleiten. So können die Folgen unterschätzter Infektionen an der Hand besonders durch kleine Verletzungen gemindert werden.
