Einführung in die Kulturwissenschaften

Zusammenfassung

»Cultural Studies today is a simmering stew of the ideas, voices, and lives of people all over the world. It’s the things we use and the people we talk about. It’s life and life only.« Diese Definition von Cultural Studies sagt alles oder vielmehr gar nichts. Man findet sie (unter www.culturalstudies.net) gleich auf einer der ersten Seiten, die eine intelligente Suchmaschine im weltweiten Netz zu diesem Stichwort aufspürt. Das heißt, sie ist selber Teil jener semi- oder jedenfalls nicht allein akademischen Kultur, von der sie spricht. Um das Bild vom »simmering stew« aufzunehmen: Bei einem Eintopf, der noch auf dem Herd köchelt, fällt die Abgrenzung und Bestimmung der einzelnen Bestandteile schwer. Wenn man den Deckel hebt, dampfen einem Ideen, Stimmen und Biographien entgegen, manches schon leicht zerkocht, anderes vielleicht noch nicht ganz gar.
