Zusammenfassung
Das Substantiv ›Anpassung‹ geht auf das Verb ›passen‹ zurück, das auf einer Entlehnung aus dem franz. ›passer‹ »gehen, vorübergehen« beruht und sich über niederländische Vermittlung entwickelt zu ›(ge)passen‹ im Sinne von »zum Ziel kommen, erreichen« und schließlich die neuhochdeutsche Bedeutung »gut sitzen, angemessen sein« erhält. Das Verb ›anpassen‹ erscheint ebenso wie das Substantiv ›Anpassung‹ im 18. Jahrhundert.
