Zusammenfassung

Die verbesserten sozialen, ökonomischen und medizinischen Verhältnisse haben in unserem Jahrhundert zu einer Verdoppelung der Lebenserwartung geführt. Die rückläufige Sterblichkeit von Menschen mittleren und höheren Alters ließ die Bevölkerungsgruppe der über 65-jährigen überproportional anwachsen. Beträgt der Anteil dieser Altersgruppe gegenwärtig etwa 15%, wird er Trendprognosen zufolge im Jahre 2030 auf mehr als 25% ansteigen [8].
