Abstract

The world population is aging, especially in Asia and Europe. Rapid aging poses seriously threats and challenges to elder care service. With the development of economy, seniors are visioning quality life expectation. Sojourning, which means staying in a place outside of one’s inhabitant home for some period of time, is getting popular with the growth of seniors’ income and education level, the number of senior sojourners are expected to increase in a significant speed in the near future. The paper conducted a detailed analysis and carding on smart care system, from both literature and market perspectives. The paper surveyed the requirements and difficulties standing on the way of quality senior sojourners, and proposed a framework design on the basis of Microsoft IoT platform, to set a smart care system. The purpose is to physically and mentally support those old people living out dependently, if the design is accepted by all sides, it would be a win-win business for senior sojourners, their guardians/children and relatives, IT enterprises and even the local governments.

Acknowledgement

I would like to take this opportunity to thank a number of people who have offered invaluable assistance in the preparation of the paper. My deepest gratitude goes first and foremost to one of my colleagues, Mr. Cao Chengde, who helped me hand out questionnaires when he worked as a French interpreter at the 2nd World Senior Conference in 2019. I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to my friends and former coworker, Ms. Miao Xuemei, Mr. Di Baorong, and Ms. Guo Suzhen, who have well helped me with the interview survey because have been abroad and become experienced senior sojourners. I am also obliged to my former students, Ms. Chen Yuting and Mr. Hou Fangdong, who handed out hundreds of questionnaires at the airport when they are working as tour guides and leaders. Their help is quite important for the completion of the paper. I also greatly appreciate the assistance offered by the authors and scholars mentioned in the references, without whose works, the research would not have been possible.

Lastly, I am deeply indebted to my beloved parents and daughter, who always supported me and offered valuable insights. Their support have accompanied me through the difficult course.
