Toward a Developmentally Informed Theory of Mental Disorder in Older Adults

  • Chapter
Handbook of Aging and Mental Health

Part of the book series: The Springer Series in Adult Development and Aging ((SSAD))

Abstract

This chapter represents an exercise in theory building, setting out propositions that are essential for a model of mental disorder in older adults. The intent is to provide a framework that will be useful to research and practice through implications for etiology, course, treatment, and prevention.

A theory is an attempt to explain.... Explicit theory-building is crucial to research, and especially to intervention. Bengtson (1995)
