Migration ist in der zunehmend globalisierten Welt heute zu einer Selbstverständlichkeit geworden und per se nicht pathologisch. Im Gegenteil handelt es sich um einen Prozess, der notwendig zur Menschheit gehört und den es zu alien Zeiten gab. Zu der Länder- und Kontinentsgrenzen überschreitenden Migration kommen die Wanderbewegungen innerhalb eines Landes, vor allem in Form der Urbanisierung. Die Gründe hierfür sind vielfältig, am häufigsten die Suche nach besseren Lebens- und Arbeitsbedingungen; neben zahlreichen anderen Motiven (u.a. Ausbildung, Familiengründung und -nachzug) sind Flucht vor politischer, religiöser und ethnischer Verfolgung sowie Krieg und Vertreibung von besonderer Bedeutung.
