Depressionen sind die häufigste psychische Erkrankung im höheren Lebensalter (6, 23). Die mit ihnen verbundenen Belastungen sind höher als die der meisten anderen chronischen Erkrankungen im höheren Lebensalter und werden dahingehend nur noch durch Herz- und Gelenkerkrankungen übertroffen (44). Im Vergleich zu anderen Altersgruppen zeigen sie einige Besonderheiten, die im folgenden Beitrag fokussiert werden sollen.
