Translationale Forschung in der Geriatrie?

Ein Plädoyer anhand aktueller biomedizinischer Schlüsselpublikationen

Zusammenfassung

Der aktuelle Forschungsakzent der Geriatrie liegt nahezu ausschließlich bei klinischen und epidemiologischen Beobachtungsstudien. Erkenntnissen aus der Laborforschung wird im Hinblick auf ihre – sog. T1-translationalen – Implikationen für die Klinik bislang nur eine untergeordnete Relevanz beigemessen. Im vorliegenden Artikel wird nach einer Definition des Begriffs „translationale Forschung“ anhand ausgewählter neuerer biogerontologischer Schlüsselpublikationen die Möglichkeit unmittelbar klinisch-geriatrischer Schlussfolgerungen aus experimentellen biogerontologischen Arbeiten dargestellt. Die dabei adressierten Themenfelder betreffen Fragen des altersbedingten Skelettmuskelverlusts (Sarkopenie), des alternden Immunsystem (Immunseneszenz) sowie der Neurodegeneration (M. Alzheimer und M. Parkinson).
