Zusammenfassung

Mit zunehmendem Lebensalter treten zahlreiche physiologische und krankheitsbedingte Veränderungen auf, die u. a. Strukturen betreffen, die in den Schluckakt involviert sind. Diese Veränderungen erhöhen das Risiko, Schluckstörungen zu entwickeln, die ihrerseits wiederum zu Pneumonien, Mangelernährung, Exsikkose, einer relevanten Einschränkung der Lebensqualität und einer erhöhten Mortalität führen können. Zur Einordnung von Art und Ausprägung einer Dysphagie stehen sowohl die klinische Schluckuntersuchung als auch apparative Untersuchungsverfahren, z. B. eine endoskopische Untersuchung des Schluckakts, zur Verfügung. In Abhängigkeit von den Untersuchungsbefunden, den zugrunde liegenden Erkrankung und der individuellen Prognoseabschätzung existieren verschiedene therapeutische Möglichkeiten, die von Kostanpassung und/oder logopädischer Therapie bis hin zur Sondenernährung reichen können. Die optimale Therapie erfordert die enge Zusammenarbeit der beteiligten Fachdisziplinen.
