Zusammenfassung

Altern per se ist keine Erkrankung, sondern ein natürlicher physiologischer Prozess. Dieser Alterungsprozess kann jedoch mit diversen Erkrankungen und pathologischen Funktionsstörungen verbunden sein. Eine adäquate Therapie erfolgt multimodal und interdisziplinär, wobei als Grundvoraussetzung eine umfassende ärztliche Diagnostik voranzustellen ist. Die umfangreiche Darstellung der wichtigsten altersassoziierten physischen und psychischen Erkrankungen ermöglicht bzw. erleichtert das Herstellen von Zusammenhängen und fördert das Verständnis für Betroffene, Angehörige und Betreuende. Diese Fakten können und sollen auch im Rahmen der Entwicklung von Therapie-, Betreuungs- und Pflegekonzepten berücksichtigt werden.
