Zusammenfassung

Aufgrund wachsender Lebenserwartung und höherer Prävalenz im Alter wird die Zahl der älteren Patienten mit idiopathischem Parkinson-Syndrom (Synonyme: M. Parkinson, Parkinson-Erkrankung) in den nächsten Jahren ansteigen. Die im Alter häufig bestehenden Komorbiditäten sowie die erhöhte Wahrscheinlichkeit vor Medikamentennebenwirkungen, insbesondere vor dem Hintergrund der häufig anzutreffenden Polypharmazie, erfordern besondere Aufmerksamkeit und Kenntnisse. Bei der Therapie gilt es, neben motorischen auch nichtmotorische Symptome, wie neuropsychiatrische oder autonome Störungen, zu berücksichtigen, da diese die Lebensqualität ebenfalls stark beeinträchtigen können. Im fortgeschrittenen Stadium der Erkrankung rücken nichtmedikamentöse Therapien, die Versorgung mit Hilfsmitteln und Pflege zunehmend in den Vordergrund. Eine enge Einbeziehung des sozialen Umfelds ist für die Umsetzung von größter Bedeutung.
