A commentary by S Bengmark discusses our randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled multicenter trial that demonstrated increased mortality in patients with predicted severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) who received probiotics.1 Clearly we support any critical appraisal of our study, but in our opinion, several statements in this commentary require amendment.
