Differential diagnosis in acute spinal cord diseases

Es werden die wichtigsten Differentialdiagnosen akut auftretender Querschnittlähmungen nicht-traumatischer Ursache besprochen. Zur Behandlung dieser Patienten muss ein breites diagnostisches und therapeutisches Spektrum berücksichtigt werden. Nicht-traumatische Rückenmarkläsionen umfassen entzündlich, vaskulär, tumor und metabolisch bedingte Ursachen, die rasch diagnostiziert und spezifisch behandelt werden müssen. Die weitere Rehabilitation dieser Patienten wird ähnlich wie bei traumatischer Rückenmarkläsion durch das neurologische Defizit und die Prognose der Erkrankung bestimmt.

We discuss the most important differential diagnosis in acute non traumatic spinal cord lesions. To therapy these patients, a large diagnostic and therapeutic spectrum must be considered. Nontraumatic spinal cord lesions include inflammatoric, immunologic, toxic-metabolic and physical reasons, tumours, bleedings, myelomalazies, neurodegenerative myelopathies and spinal deformities. The aimes of rehabilitation of these patients are almost similar to patients with tramatic spinal cord injured.
