Zusammenfassung
Hintergrund
Abstract
Background
Irreversible brain damage can occur only 3 min after cardiac arrest. These minutes can be decisive for many human lives that could be saved. People of all ages and all states of health can be affected by cardiac arrest. Even though the treatment options of this modern, high-tech and specialized health system are nearly optimal, the survival rate after cardiac arrest on the same level in Germany compared to international standards. This might be based on the fact that despite frequent “cardiac arrest” situations, first aiders initiate easy but life-saving measures in only 16 % of cases.
Conclusion
However, these easy measures could save a life! About 5,000 human lives could be easily saved in Germany merely by increasing the resuscitation rate of first aiders.
