Alkohol im Alter

Trinkgewohnheiten, risikoarmer Konsum und alkoholbezogene Störungen

Zusammenfassung

Alkoholmissbrauch und Alkoholfolgekrankheiten im Alter nehmen zu. Die funktionellen Auswirkungen sind ausgeprägter als bei Jüngeren. Alkoholprobleme im Alter werden dennoch oft übersehen. Menschen mit „Early-onset“ und „Late-onset“-Alkoholismus unterscheiden sich hinsichtlich Vorbelastung, Sozial- und Gesundheitsstatus sowie Therapieaussichten. Die Intensität des Entzugs hängt nicht vom kalendarischen Alter ab, sondern von der Schwere der Abhängigkeit und der Komorbidität. Es ist entscheidend, die Entwicklung von Veränderungsbereitschaft zu fördern. Kurzinterventionen sind bei älteren Menschen mit riskantem Konsum wirksam. Richtlinien für risikoarmen Konsum empfehlen u. a. die Einhaltung von 2 alkoholfreien Tagen/Woche. Es gibt keinen Beleg für die Richtigkeit der populären These von der gesundheitsförderlichen Wirkung geringer Alkoholmengen. Alkoholkonsum ist Genuss und nicht Therapie oder Prävention. Die neue S3-Leitlinie „Screening, Diagnose und Behandlung alkoholbezogener Störungen“ enthält erstmals ein eigenes Kapitel über ältere Menschen.
